Scary fat people

A Ministry of Health report estimates that more than half of New Zealand adults are overweight or obese.

It says a third of New Zealanders over the age of 15 are overweight and 1 in 5 are classed as obese.

Health Minister Pete Hodgson describes the situation as "frightening". He calls the situation a "crisis", and says an obesity "epidemic" is the country's most pressing public health challenge. He says that "we can only begin to imagine" what it all means for the future of our health system, and that the government has been fighting flab for some time but "it is now time to accelerate our efforts".

Sounds to me like the Minister is whetting our appetites for a spending binge. It's a shame that the only thing this will trim the fat from is our wallets.
